I managed a secret audio recording for those of you who love an addict and cannot understand why it is so difficult to talk to the person. It is likely that your addict is using a big addict tactic known as deflection. The person will try to distract you in ways that you will hear in the recorded link, which include raging at you, accusing you, bringing things up from the past, blatantly lying about something else to get you to correct the misstatements, use of insults/racial slurs, threats. This audio recording is between me and addicts that I know but I am not close to them. In close relationships you can expect guilt trips, tears, “you were never there for me” when you catch the person stealing. Keep in mind when you listen that everything said to me is to take my attention away from the real issue–the fact that I saw the guy with a bike that could have been a bike that had been stolen from me and I wanted to take a closer look. Hang in there until the 2:40 point.
