Hawaii a COVID Safe Haven? A Mainlander Gives Me A Dire Warning

People are lonely and bored in isolation. A customer service rep from my alarm company talked to me in Hawaii from her home office outside of Philadelphia. She was exactly right when she said people in Hawaii don’t know how serious things are. In a pop of about one million , as of today we have just over 400 cases, 80% of them appeared to catch the virus travelling out of state. There have been 5 deaths. Our heightened emergency measures are precautions not reactions. I don’t see many people, true, but I don’t know anyone here personally effected. Without the news we would have no idea anything was amiss. The customer service rep spent twenty minutes telling me how dire things are. People dying barely a day after feeling ok. She told me repeatedly to ignore the local normalcy here bc the virus is just waiting, however a virus does, to put in its inevitable appearance here. I read New York is thinking of using parks as temporary cemeteries. That horror, here, would absolutely change the feeling that we are fortunate to have a geographic quarantine that has kept us safe. We will see. No matter what, I will write about it.
