You can’t stay serious all the time no matter how serious the time of a global pandemic. I will share this tidbit from mandatory Quarantine: I have watched television shows from eras gone by and I have been able to track the careers of minor, supporting actors over time. Can you relate to seeing details heretofore unknown to you? It seems an actor can make a solid career out of bit parts and he will work continuously, if not famously, from childhood through middle age and even beyond.
Example, the starring middle aged actress on the sitcom King of Queens played Carla’s teenage daughter in the early days of the hit show Cheers, when Shelley Long was still in the cast.
Remember the actor from the movie 🎦 Ghostbusters who was looking for the key master,🗝️, whom he ultimately found in actress Sigourney Weaver? He’s been working for decades! I have no idea what his name is. He is no doubt well known to industry insiders but he is not famous as far as the general public is concerned. When I think about it, even the headliners of that movie classic are probably unknown to Gen X’ers.
1️⃣ Lesson: let go of the yearning for fame. Focus on well done, consistent work. The work is the fruit that remains…Fame–not so much. Lifelong celebrity is limited to unicorns like Samuel L Jackson or Denzel Washington or Betty White. But we can all blog!
