Don’t make her ask. Don’t act like you don’t know what’s reasonable, if you respect her, if she has sense, she will respect you. But too often both people let past issues interfere with respecting the person right in front of them.

Starting fresh with each person is a hard thing to do. You need to leave yourself open to get screwed. Not carrying that compounded bitterness forward to the next person is very hard.
I’m still a romantic at heart and believe in the inherent good nature of people. Very rarely do I think we start out in life with a jaded outlook. I think it may be learned. Experiences in life have taught my brain that most people are self serving. I try and start with a fresh heart with each encounter. It’s very difficult and the successes I have are lessened with age and experience.
